Engagement

We create genuine opportunities for people to share ideas, priorities and experiences, helping shape landscapes and public spaces that respond to the communities who use them.

Through open conversations, workshops, co-design and accessible engagement tools, we build shared understanding and strengthen community ownership, leading to more informed, inclusive and meaningful design outcomes.

Hahndorf Main Street Revitalisation

Balancing the needs of residents, businesses and visitors within one of the Adelaide Hills’ busiest tourism destinations was the key for the result of this engagement.

CLOVER and Council engaged directly with the community through face-to-face consultation, interactive boards, online platforms and social media, alongside local organisations and community groups. Conversations explored what mattered most, including traffic and parking, heritage, footpaths, lighting, street furniture, landscaping, public art and future technology.

Following extensive community consultation and careful review of feedback, CLOVER developed detailed concept plans that reflected local priorities while responding to the unique heritage character and function of Hahndorf Main Street. The plans were endorsed by Council, with implementation subject to future funding.

Wattle Reserve Play Space

Community engagement was embedded throughout the design of the Wattle Reserve Playspace in, giving local families, children and the wider community different ways to contribute and help shape the project.

CLOVER and the City of Holdfast Bay reached the community through letterbox drops, social media, Council platforms, posters and an online survey, supported by two on-site drop-in sessions. Interactive boards, sticky dots and Post-it notes encouraged conversations about what people valued and wanted to see, while children created their own ‘dream playspaces’ using kinetic sand and natural materials. Around 50 people participated in the drop-in sessions.

We also took the engagement into the classroom, working with more than 60 Year 5 students at McAuley Community School through drawing, individual activities and a collaborative ‘Playground Island’ design exercise. Their ideas provided valuable insight into how young people want to play and directly informed the developing design.

Stirling Coventry Library Lawns

Community engagement helped shape the vision for the redevelopment of the Stirling Coventry Library Lawns, an important civic and community space at the heart of Stirling.

CLOVER and Adelaide Hills Council engaged with the Citizen Panel, library staff, local businesses, elected members and the broader community through workshops, interactive displays, face-to-face conversations and online engagement. The process explored how people use and value the lawns and their priorities for the future of the space.

A dedicated cultural workshop with South Australian Native Title Services and Kaurna Yerta Aboriginal Corporation also explored opportunities to embed Kaurna stories, knowledge and cultural significance within the landscape.

The engagement directly informed the community-led masterplan and concept design for the proposed $2.5 million redevelopment, creating a shared vision for a welcoming, culturally meaningful and well-used community space.

Dunstan Adventure Playground

Dunstan Adventure Playground is a much-loved play destination along the Karrawirra Pari | the River Torrens.

CLOVER engaged with children, families, local communities and key stakeholders to understand what makes a great adventure playground, exploring opportunities for play, challenge, discovery and connection to the surrounding landscape.

Working alongside Brave + Curious, Greg Grabasch and Kaurna and Ngarrindjeri artist Allan Sumner, connecting the playground to Kaurna Country, culture and the stories of the land was an important focus of the engagement and project.

The engagement helped inform a renewed adventure playground that celebrates its unique riverside setting, encourages imagination and exploration, and provides opportunities for children of different ages and abilities to play, connect and challenge themselves.

Echunga Main Street Upgrade

Community engagement was central to the Echunga Main Street Upgrade, helping shape a design that responds to the character of the township and the priorities of the local community.

CLOVER worked collaboratively with Council, the Echunga Residents Group, local stakeholders and community members through workshops, online engagement and surveys. Feedback was incorporated throughout the design process, allowing ideas to be tested, developed and refined as the project progressed.

The result is a main street design shaped by local knowledge and community input, improving movement, amenity and street activation while retaining the qualities that make Echunga distinctive.

Summit Regional Adventure Play Space

CLOVER has engaged with children, families, local schools, community members and key stakeholders to understand their ideas, aspirations and priorities for the new Summit Regional Adventure Play Space in Mount Barker. Working alongside Third Camp, strengthening First Nations connections to Country, culture and the local landscape has been a driving focus throughout the engagement process.

What makes you visit, and what makes you stay? What makes you feel safe, challenged, independent and curious? These questions have been at the heart of our conversations with the community.

We have thoroughly enjoyed the engagement process, reaching far and wide, meeting so many wonderful people and hearing what matters most to them. Their ideas and experiences will help shape a welcoming, inclusive and adventurous regional destination that reflects the character of the Adelaide Hills and the community who will use it.
