The Yandra Street Reserve Basin and Wetland project transforms essential stormwater infrastructure into a multifunctional landscape for water, wildlife and community life. Delivered for the City of Port Adelaide Enfield in collaboration with Southfront, the project integrates a new stormwater detention basin and wetland with broader improvements to the reserve, creating a more resilient, connected and inviting local open space.

CLOVER developed the landscape concept alongside the engineering requirements of the basin and wetland, balancing stormwater management with improved water quality, biodiversity and community amenity. Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), indigenous planting, habitat creation and green infrastructure work together to restore ecological value within this highly modified urban environment while contributing to urban cooling and long-term climate resilience.

 

Importantly, the project looks beyond the wetland itself. Upgrades to the existing play space and court, together with a new pump track, pathways and landscape improvements, create more reasons for people of different ages and abilities to visit, move through and spend time within the reserve. Stronger connections to surrounding streets and open space help establish Yandra Street Reserve as a valued local destination for recreation and everyday activity.

 

The wetland landscape also creates opportunities for nature-based play, environmental learning and community stewardship, allowing people to experience seasonal change, local ecology and water systems as part of their everyday neighbourhood. Layered planting and habitat areas provide refuge for birds, pollinators and other local wildlife while creating an evolving landscape with its own distinctive character.

 

The result is a practical yet ambitious landscape vision that brings engineering, ecology, recreation and community outcomes together, turning necessary stormwater infrastructure into a greener, healthier and more engaging neighbourhood reserve.
