Stephen Street

CLOVER led the design and documentation of the Stephen Street Upgrade for Mount Barker District Council, transforming this important CBD connection between Gawler Street, surrounding retail and entertainment areas and the future town square. The project creates a pedestrian-friendly 10km/h shared zone, improving movement and amenity while establishing a stronger connection through the heart of Mount Barker.

The design integrates new street trees, garden beds, lighting and upgraded pavements alongside significant stormwater, drainage and water main infrastructure. Water sensitive urban design and tree vault systems were incorporated to maximise soil volumes, support healthy long-term tree growth and increase greening within the constrained streetscape.

A distinctive paving pattern draws inspiration from the scales of the Purple Spotted Gudgeon, a native fish found in the waterways of the Adelaide Hills, bringing a subtle connection to the region’s natural environment into the urban setting. As lead consultant, CLOVER coordinated the multidisciplinary team to bring together landscape, civil infrastructure, lighting, services and traffic requirements within a cohesive streetscape design.
