Echunga Main Street
CLOVER is leading the design and coordination of the Echunga Main Street Upgrade for Mount Barker District Council, progressing the project from Concept Masterplan through to Detailed Design. Building on the 2019 Echunga Township Plan, the upgrade seeks to strengthen the identity and function of the main street while creating a safer, greener and more welcoming place for the local community.
Â
Community input has been central to the design process, with CLOVER facilitating a series of co-design workshops with Council and the Community Reference Group to help shape key decisions and ensure the upgrade reflects Echunga’s distinct character. The design introduces improved pedestrian connections and crossings, new community spaces, street trees and planting, upgraded footpaths and street furniture, while balancing parking, traffic movement and existing infrastructure.
Â
Water sensitive urban design is integral to the project, with rain gardens and vegetated swales capturing and treating stormwater before it enters surrounding waterways. Together with extensive new tree planting and improvements to the underground stormwater network, the design responds to Echunga’s landscape setting while improving environmental performance and flood resilience and creating a lasting legacy for the township.
