Uniting SA Eleanora
This redevelopment of the former Eleanora Centre in Noarlunga Downs transforms a significant community site into a connected landscape that respects its heritage while strengthening links to the surrounding open space network and neighbourhood.
The landscape framework integrates new streetscapes, reserves, residential gardens and heritage areas into a cohesive public realm that strengthens connections to the surrounding neighbourhood. Existing creek corridors and Council reserves are enhanced through indigenous revegetation, naturalised stormwater systems and accessible pedestrian links, creating a resilient green network that supports biodiversity, recreation and everyday wellbeing.
A key focus of the design is creating inclusive outdoor environments that are welcoming, safe and comfortable for people of all ages and abilities. Accessible pathways, shaded gathering spaces, private gardens and communal open spaces encourage social interaction, quiet reflection and opportunities to reconnect with nature, while supporting long-term liveability for future residents.
The planting strategy celebrates the character of the site through the use of resilient local native species, replacement canopy trees and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) initiatives including swales, rain gardens and passive irrigation. Together these elements establish a landscape that responds to climate change, strengthens ecological connections and provides a durable, low-maintenance environment that will continue to grow and mature with the community.
