Resthaven Leabrook

Resthaven Leabrook is undergoing a staged refurbishment that transforms existing residential wings and their surrounding landscapes into contemporary, welcoming environments that enrich everyday life for residents. The landscape design responds to the changing needs of aged care by creating outdoor spaces that encourage movement, social connection and meaningful engagement with nature while complementing the modernisation of the facility.

The project revitalises a series of courtyards and surrounding gardens with accessible walking paths, shaded gathering spaces, productive gardens and inviting places for family visits, relaxation and quiet reflection. Raised herb and vegetable gardens, seasonal planting and sensory landscapes provide opportunities for residents to remain active and connected to familiar gardening experiences, while creating beautiful outlooks from bedrooms and communal living areas.

A key focus of the design is supporting residents living with dementia through intuitive wayfinding, gentle circulation, familiar garden settings and opportunities for both social interaction and moments of solitude. Existing significant trees are carefully integrated into the landscape, with new planting enhancing shade, biodiversity and comfort while creating a softer, more therapeutic environment throughout the site.

The result is a contemporary landscape that strengthens residents' connection with nature, supports independence and wellbeing, and creates welcoming outdoor environments that can be enjoyed throughout the seasons by residents, families and carers alike.
